As a web designer, I’m always curious to see some of the designs other web designers come up with. I’m often blown away by the things other designers come up with. I’m also amazed how the speed of a website is often not something that is measured during the design process.
Web page speed is one of the most important factors when it comes to SEO and sales conversions. Yet I still see many new websites springing up with heavy un-optimized graphics and videos.
Chances are, visitors to your web site aren’t really going to care about fancy animations, video and graphics. They just want to get to the info on your page, and they want to get to it quickly. They also want to access it on their mobile phone, a device that doesn’t tend to do well with flashier sites.
I suppose loading up a website with these bells and whistles are an easy way to amaze your client. Showing them a web page that loads in 20 milliseconds isn’t that sexy. But it should be!
